Lamestream Media: Reload or White Flag?

Mrs. Palin, apparently inspired by an annoying little mosquito, writes about her perceived persecution by the members of the media and her personal philosophy for fighting whenever she feels that she is right.

After ten paragraphs on the subject of liberal bias of the media (and coining the term “lamestream press” to refer to the established media), Mrs. Palin moves on to a paragraph full of modern-day tragedies:

Today, our country is faced with seemingly overwhelming challenges. We have an unsustainable and immoral $14 trillion debt problem which, combined with a self-inflicted energy crisis, could bring America to her knees. The President of the United States is manipulating an energy supply by refusing to develop our U.S. energy resources. Shouldn’t that be the media’s focus today? Wouldn’t you like more information on the deficit that for last month alone was the highest in our history at $223 billion? That single month’s deficit was more than the entire deficit for the year 2007! We still have a 16% real unemployment rate. We had 2.9 million home foreclosures last year alone, with this year predicted to be even worse. Americans who are struggling to make ends meet are now hit by rising food and energy prices – exacerbated by the Fed’s decision to drop that $600 billion money bomb known as QE2 on us. Gas has already hit $4 per gallon in some areas. And let’s not forget that our men and women in uniform are deployed far from home today. From Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, to who-knows-where tomorrow under a clouded, confused Obama Doctrine, our armed forces are in harm’s way, defending our interests and protecting our freedoms.

Mrs. Palin previously wrote about the cost of gas and Mr. Obama's energy policy and does not add anything on the matter. Mrs. Palin does not go into detail on any of the issues that she raises here, but does deride using quantitative easing (QE2) as a solution to the recent financial crisis. Mrs. Palin makes a point of the current deficit, pointint out how much it has grown since 2007. An analysis in 2009 by the New York Times came to the conclusion that Mr. Obama's plans were only a small contribution to this problem:

…President Obama’s agenda, ambitious as it may be, is responsible for only a sliver of the deficits, despite what many of his Republican critics are saying. The second is that Mr. Obama does not have a realistic plan for eliminating the deficit, despite what his advisers have suggested.

But as the Times points out, at the time at least, they did not see him as having a plan to reverse the deficit. Facing the economic situation Mr. Obama inherited, it would be understandable that the deficit was of secondary concern.
